How the conversion works
The math is simple but easy to get wrong by hand. To go from salary to hourly, the calculator divides your annual salary by your total paid hours for the year, which is hours per week multiplied by weeks per year. A standard schedule of 40 hours over 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, so a $52,000 salary becomes exactly $25.00 per hour. To go the other way, fromhourly to salary, it multiplies your hourly wage by the same two numbers. The weekly figure is your hourly rate times hours per week, the monthly figure is your annual pay divided by twelve, and thedaily figure assumes a five-day work week, so it is one fifth of a full week. Adjusting any input recalculates every equivalent at once.
Why convert between salary and hourly?
- Comparing job offers: one role quotes a salary and another quotes an hourly rate, convert both to the same unit to compare fairly.
- Freelance and contract rates: work out the hourly rate you need to match a target annual income.
- Part-time planning: see what a reduced schedule does to your yearly pay before you commit.
- Budgeting: translate a salary into a monthly or weekly number that lines up with your bills.
