What a word frequency count is good for

A word frequency analysis tells you which terms dominate a piece of writing. Writers and editors use it to catch words they lean on too heavily and to vary their language. Students check that an essay actually focuses on the right themes. SEO and content marketers measure keyword usage and density to make sure a page is clearly about its target topic without keyword-stuffing. Researchers and language learners use it to spot the most important vocabulary in a passage. Because the count is live, you can edit your text and watch the ranking shift in real time.

How the counting works

Before counting, every word is lowercased and punctuation is stripped, so“Time,”, “time” and “TIME” are treated as the same word. Apostrophes inside a word (as in it’s or don’t) and digits are kept, while commas, periods, quotes and other symbols are removed. Words are then ranked by count, with ties broken alphabetically. The share percentage shows each word as a portion of the words being counted, which is handy for gauging keyword density at a glance.

Is it private?

Yes — completely. Unlike many online analyzers, nothing you paste is ever uploaded. All of the counting runs inside your browser with plain JavaScript, so your draft, essay or confidential documentnever leaves your device. You can even use the tool offline once the page has loaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No — it is analyzed in your browser and never sent to a server.

How many words are shown in the table?

The top 25 most-frequent words. The cards above still report the totals for the entire text.

Why is a word missing from the list?

If “Ignore common words” is on, very frequent filler words are excluded so meaningful keywords rank higher. Turn it off to count every word.

Can I export the results?

Yes — use Copy table to copy the ranking as tab-separated values, ready to paste into Excel, Google Sheets or a document.
